چکیده
Abstract Background There is a growing consensus across stakeholders on the value of patient preference (PP) studies, as recognized by European Medicines Agency and Network for Health Technology Assessment. This study aimed to develop PP survey quantitatively evaluate which characteristics are most important inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients, so that results can inform medicinal product life cycle (MPLC). Methods Following PREFER recommendations, four-step approach was followed survey: 1) stated method selection, 2) attribute level development, 3) implementation, 4) piloting. Throughout different steps an advisory board (AB) consisting out organizations, gastroenterologists, IBD nurses, statisticians were consulted. Results First, discrete choice experiment (DCE) chosen preferred elicitation because it allows reach objectives survey, namely to: quantify relative importance attributes, elicit trade-offs patients make, measure heterogeneity. Second, scoping literature review clinical trials, available treatments, previously published studies performed. Discussions these with (n=11) during focus group discussions (FGDs) using nominal technique revealed following prioritized characteristics: prevent surgery, long-term remission, improved quality life, occurrence urgency, labor rate. Based upon FGDs, preliminary list possible attributes inclusion in DCE refined AB meetings. iteratively adapted until found 14 their levels, corresponding explanations (Figure 1). Third, designed include partial profiles next measures about sociodemographic variables, health literacy, treatment experience. Fourth, piloting (n=4) comprehensible, had good flow, contained graphics supported content. Only minor text edits needed. Conclusion It key partnership other members AB. will be rolled Europe 11 languages increase understanding aspects patients. These should included drug development evaluation MPLC more patient-centered future treatments target themselves.
